How do you get a child to stop wetting the bed at night?

I have 3 boys and now my 3rd is gonna be four and will not stop wetting… He is determined he is a big boy and wears underpants to bed. I wake him up twice a night plus limit fluids before bed. I never had the other two still wetting by this age.. I know every child is different but 4 is a bit old still to wet. Thanks!

First, don’t make such a big deal out of it, age 4, is still very young. Discuss this with his doctor,

Don’t compare him to his brother’s.He will think that something is wrong with him and we both know that he is perfectly normal.

I have a now adult child, that wet the bed until the age of 13 or
so. I did all of the things that you have done, restricted fluids after a certain hour, trips to the bathroom, before and during sleep, but, to no avail. They tend to sleep very soundly. So I just faced the fact that I would have to do what I could to make sure that my child did not go to school smelling like pee, so I doubled the plastic on the mattress and used chux’s on top of the sheets, and made sure that a morning shower was always taken.
I also found , that this type of thing runs in families. Boys tend to be more prone to this. So, take it a step at a time. He may stop tomorrow or he may stop later. Just let him know, from your actions and your words, that he is not a problem.

We have enough messed up kids out there these days.

Peace

how do you stop an 11 year old boy from bed-wetting at night?

my brother do it everyday. it smells so bad i will throw up.
please help!

You cannot stop a person from wetting the bed. I know, I wet the bed until I was past 15 and was in diapers every night until I could stay dry. Yes he need to go to the doctor to see if there is anything medically wrong. With me there was nothing wrong so it just took time, with your bro if there is nothing wrong, he needs to wear a diaper at night which will save the bedding and he wont wake up in nasty pajamas.

how to stop bed-wetting in teens?

First things first… Don’t let the teem hate themself for a problem that is truly beyond their control! Second thing, they are not alone. Many people have enuresis (wet the bed) past childhood.

Between 1% to 5% of teens also wet the bed. Now think about that and consider that as a rough estimate, in a school on one-thousand teens, between ten and fifty still suffer from enuresis.

It is an embarrassing problem, something difficult to manage, is generally a turn-off for dating, limits ability to travel or sleep over friends houses, etc; but it is not impossible to overcome.

There are options beyond diapers for the rest of their life… If they and their parents haven’t already, the teen needs to see a good doctor who specializes in enuresis. That doctor may order a host of tests, and it may take many appointments with many other doctors for additional tests. The goal is to check all of the possible mechanical problems, and if anything is found, to correct them there.

The doctor may also try certain medications which have been proved effective for enuresis. Any medications have risks, of course; but this is worthwhile to discuss with the doctor too.

Now, don’t let this stop their life. It can be managed and life be normal. I will say it again, they are not alone. About one-percent of kids grow up and keep wetting through adulthood, though I doubt you will. Even still, good habits and management now will be good for life.

Cheers!

Bed Wetting?

My 14 yo girl still wets the bed i have tried every thing from doctors who are not to worried, bed wetting alarms to medication and nothing seems to work was wondering if someone may have some old remedy that may work xoxo

well some doctors give out different types of medication…
but DO NOT PUT HER ON DDAVP OR ANY KIND OF PILL, OR NASAL SPRAY!! I had to go to the hospital for 2 days because of dehydration when I was on some of the bed wetting medications. also you can try waking him/her up before you go to bed, but don’t get him/her up 2-3 times a night. this will cause him/her to loose much needed sleep and will cause you to loose much needed sleep. limiting drinks goes back to the dehydration problem. if you limit them to much you will have more problems.

goodnites work wonders. I know what she is going through. I am 17 and I started wetting the bed last year when I was under a lot of stress. I was trying to find my first job, was in 4 leadership positions in community clubs, have parents that give me hell over any thing and every thing, was trying to get into college early (I did end up getting into college 2 years early at the community college), and many many other things were going on in my life. I am proof that stress causes bed wetting.

I can also say that withholding drinks, waking up in the night, medication, and the whole list of crazy things that people on this site suggest do not work. medication for bed wetting has some nasty side effects that are worse than the bed wetting (IE. vomiting, dehydration, ect…) and when you wake them up in the night they only loose sleep which makes them do worse in school, and sometimes makes the bed wetting worse. you can try counseling, but that has a very low rate of sucess.

what I have found to be the best solution is to wear goodnites to bed. these keep the mess down and are a very good way to handle the problem. give her time, and she will out grow it. ether she will get used to the stress and it will go away, or the stress will go away and the wetting with it. she will out grow it one way or another.
