Talking To Toddlers
Communication with the toddlers holds the key that they learn things quickly. A toddler must be encouraged to communicate with the help of gestures by hand and sound to express their feelings and also ask for what they want at a particular thing. The toddler at first may communicate only by crying. Crying is the most common type of communication when the toddler is young and he is too immature to communicate by other means. As the toddler grows up, he sees and hears the sights and sounds around him and then he communicates by other means also. The toddler may point towards a thing when he wants it. Or he may make some gestures with his face.
A parent should communicate regularly with his child and try to make him learn new things everyday. There are many books available in the market at reasonable prices and sometimes good discounts. These books help to improve the vocabulary of the child and help to get acquainted with the common things in the household and the world around him. They also help him speak the most common sentences in the English language. For learning his mother tongue, it is essential that the parent makes him learn new words everyday. These words are the words that are most commonly used and as the child get older he will be able to grasp new words also. In the beginning the toddlers are totally dependent on their parents if they want something and so will try to communicate with them only. The parents should listen intently to their children and try to fulfill their needs.
The child will learn for himself the things that he likes the most and use them often. One can start to talk with the toddler (even when he is too young) very slowly and clearly with animated gestures. The toddler might not understand what the parent is saying, but like what you are doing. Also show them picture books so that they can relate to things and understand what they are used for. Concentrate on his grammar and always try to correct him when he speaks out incomplete words or sentences. For example, the toddler might call a bat “ba”, and then the parent has to correct the child by making him pronounce the word correctly. The toddler learns gradually if the parent teaches well. As the toddler grows it is important to join the words to make a meaningful sentence. One should start with teaching the toddler short sentences and explain the meaning to them. The toddler will soon pick up and then he will be able to make longer sentences.
