Toddlers Ages and Stages

The ages and stages in the toddler is one of the most important times for the toddlers and the parents itself. As the toddlers begin to move, express their feelings by signs and walk, it becomes a matter of pride for the child and happiness for the parents. The toddler sees the world around him and tries to learn new things everyday. He tries to emulate the mannerisms of his parents and becomes very happy when he is successful at imitating them. By moving around he learns what different things are and what their use is. He expresses his feelings by making sounds and making gestures. Today we delve further into the growing stages of a toddler’s development.

The first stage in the toddler’s development is the growing and moving stage. The rate at which the toddler grows is extremely fast. Also a toddler learns to do various things very quickly as he moves around crawling in the beginning and after a year he begins to walk. They are also able to hold things and feel them. They try to push and pull around and observe other toddlers. They also enjoy the playing of music in the background and will try to move in rhythm of the music. The next stage begins when the toddler expresses his feelings. He may make some distinct sounds when he needs food and if he is not feeling well then he might begin to cry. They might also extend their arms towards the elders when they need to be picked up. They will make gestures with their hands and expressions with their faces when they need something like a toy, etc. the next stage is when the toddler mingles with other toddlers. The toddler will try to observe what other toddlers are doing and will try to emulate them. All this while they will repeatedly look towards their parents to expect encouragement and happiness from them.

Also by the end of 18 months they will begin to talk a few words like mama and papa. The vocabulary that they learn at that age normally ranges from 20 to 200 words. Hence a parent should constantly encourage their toddler to speak by showing him around, pointing to a few common things and repeatedly saying the names of the things. It is encouragement on the part of the parents that will speed up the development of the toddler. The parents should show interest and happiness in what the child is doing. As toddlers grow, their thinking power increases and they begin to relate things with their purpose. They express different sounds to point out to different things and express what they want. By the age of two years the toddlers should be able to answer a few questions asked to them in the form of yes or no. Also they will be able to show more interest in things and also drink by themselves from a cup.
