Toddlers discipline also forms a major part of the toddlers initial growing years. This is because what they learn in the beginning proves to be stepping stones to what they will achieve in the later stages of life. Instilling good discipline in the toddler in the beginning stages of their life should be on the priority list of the parent along with their eating, sleeping and toilet habits. Also the most important part is trying to explain to them why they have not been allowed to do a particular thing. If the child understands the reason well, then normally he will refrain from doing that particular thing in the future. At the age of 1 year the children may misbehave or throw tantrums intentionally to get their demands fulfilled or test the parent’s tolerance limit. One of the best ways to deal with the child in that case would be to divert his attention and draw his attention to other useful and safe things. It is more important to make the child understand then to every time bribe him with a reward. What one can do is thank the child and show signs of happiness when the child does what the parents want him to do. Toddlers should understand to follow the rules set by their parents and also have self control to wait for the things that he wants at that time. It is also important to find out the cause why the children misbehave. Many children misbehave to test the parent’s tolerance limit. Many children misbehave when the parents are not giving them attention when they need it. It is important for the parent to explain to the child why a certain need of the child cannot be met at that time or why is the parent scolding the child. The parent should explain to the child that he is being scolded for his own good at present and in the future. Like wise if a parent is wrong in some cases, then the misbehavior of the child is rational and the parent should apologize for the same. When the parent respects the toddler, the toddler will reciprocate with the same respect when he grows up.
