Toddlers Eating
No matter at what stage of developments the toddler is, eating and sleeping are the most important issues to be considered by a parent. This is because instilling proper eating and sleeping habits can prove to be very beneficial for the child health wise. Today we delve further into the diet requirements of the toddler. Right from when the toddler is born to the days when he attains the age of 2 years, the toddlers needs a proper diet to maintain normal growth and make him disease resistant. A parent should ensure that the child is enjoying his eating and not make a fuss about it. But this is not always easy. Making a fuss is commonly seen in the child during meal times. A parent should watch closely about the foods that the toddler dislikes and then think of other equally good alternatives. If there are no good alternatives then what the parent is presently giving to the child then the parent should be patient with the child and make him develop the foods that he is making a fuss about.
When the toddler is a baby, mother’s milk is the best choice. Mother’s milk contains calcium and important nutrients vital for the normal and healthy growth of the baby and proves to be the best choice of food. When the baby attains the age of 3-4 months, other alternatives like liquid foods and soups can be started. These foods contain proteins and carbohydrates in addition to iron that is very vital for the child’s growth. Also when the child becomes 8 months old, one can start with fruits too. Fruits like apples, oranges provide the necessary vitamins and fruits like bananas can provide calcium. The fruits should be cut and peeled properly before giving them to the child.
Coming to vegetables, toddlers often don’t like vegetables with strong smells and bitter taste. In fact many toddlers don’t like many types of vegetables at all. However the parent should remember that vegetables are the main sources of vitamins required by the toddler and so they should be patient and make the toddler eat them. Also if the toddler is making a fuss about a particular vegetable, then the parent can opt for an equally good alternative. One can begin with simple choice like carrots, celery and lettuce and then can move to other potatoes like onions and potatoes. Milk and milk products should not be kept out of the menu at all. As mentioned before milk contains a lot of calcium and also milk products like cheese are good in fat. Toddlers prefer eating cheese best. Hence a parent should ensure that the eating times for the toddler is fun filled and not torture as they feel them to be.
